How much headlight damage can Magic Clear Lens remove?

Magic Clear Lens is intended to remove damage such as haziness, cloudiness, discoloration, and yellowing caused by oxidation. Extraneous damage, like chips and deep cracks, cannot be fixed with Magic Clear Lens.

 

Why does Magic Clear Lens work so well?

The existing problems with most headlight lens products or headlight cleaning methods, is that the majority require sanding, buffing, and re-applying a clear coat layering.

This requires removal of layers of plastic from the headlight lens. These types of headlight cleaning products and methods aren’t a permanent solution, as they weaken and damage the structural integrity of the headlight lens.

Eventually those sorts of restoration efforts that will require the replacement of the headlight lens, with cost ranging in the hundreds to thousands of dollars.

How long does Magic Clear Lens last?

Clarity of the lens will depend on the condition of headlights, and how often you use your vehicle. Typically a cleaning application is required every one to three months. Think of this as the equivalent of getting your car waxed, applying rain deterrent to windshields, or wet shine to tires. 

 

In what conditions are best to apply Magic Clear Lens?


For best results, ensure the headlight lens is clear of any excess moisture to avoid diluting the solution. Apply Magic Clear Lens in an environment where the lens is not receiving direct sunlight but where there is ample ventilation (excessive heat may cause streaking on the lens if allowed to dry too quickly).

 

Isn't the foggy appearance coming from the inside of the lens cover?


More than likely, no. Only in a very small percent of foggy headlights is the foggy appearance actually coming from the inside of the lens cover. Almost all cloudy headlights are a result of the outside of the lens cover being oxidized.

In rare occurrences, however, condensation can build up on the inside of the lens cover from rain because of a broken or faulty headlight seal. The good news is that all headlights come with vent holes and when your headlights are on, they generate a lot of heat that evaporates the moisture through the vents.

 

What causes headlight lens to turn cloudy, hazy, or yellow?


Although polycarbonate is a hard plastic, it is rather porous. While there are many advantages to using polycarbonate, oxidation can change the physical properties of the headlight lens surface.

Headlight lens have a factory-applied UV-resistant coating to help protect and preserve the porous plastic from the environment, however, once this protective barrier weakens and wears, the lens are exposed to many elements that contribute to the “cloudy” appearance, including UV rays, heat from the halogen bulb, acid rain, humidity, insects, road debris, chemicals, vehicle exhaust, and car wash brushes.

 

What happens if I come into contact with the Magic Clear Lens solution?

What are headlight lens made from?


Headlights were once made of glass; however, using glass limited car manufactures to certain sizes and shapes. As technology advanced in the mid 1980's, automakers began using polycarbonate plastic headlight lenses because it was cheaper, lighter, and had the ability to be shaped to the sleek front end styling of modern cars.

Some vehicles such as jeeps or certain trucks and vans still use glass with a simple headlight shape. However, most headlight lenses are now made of this hard, shatter-resistant polycarbonate plastic.
